San Antonio, TX rapper RNB.FOEMOB is trending again, this time in an even more major way. His viral hit single, “Texas”, was featured in last night’s NBA Playoffs Golden State Warriors vs Houston Rockets Game 7. The song was played leading into a commercial break.
The song, which dropped less than two months ago, on March 19th, instantly spiraled to success on social media after the rapper announced an open verse challenge for the song.
It trended on TikTok and Instagram, gaining him over 50,000 new Instagram followers, and now has reached over 2 million streams on Spotify. The song was also featured shortly after on Spotify’s “Viral 50” playlist.
The rapper later was seen in a video showing the purchase of a new home in Atlanta, GA. Some Texan fans expressed disappointment, even saying he was a “sell out” for moving out of San Antonio, while others felt it was a smart move to get away from haters.
He recently did an interview with “Off the Porch” podcast speaking on the virality of the song, and he revealed that he does not like the song himself, despite it’s massive popularity:
“…I don’t like it… I like what it’s doing, but I don’t like the song.. And that makes it worse, I’m hearing that sh*** 25 million times a day, I’m like “gah dayum” …”
Despite him not liking his own song, his management definitely seems to be pushing it to where it got a sync deal with the NBA, so as the host of “On The Porch” said, he better start liking it! Lol…
Props to RNB and his management for helping to “put the city on the map”. Even if people across the world don’t know he is from San Antonio, they at least know that he’s from Texas.
Oh, and you already know we had to add the song to our “Sports Hype Hop” playlist after that NBA feature.
RNB.FOEMOB even has a slowed down version of the song with DJ Screw. Check it out here:
