Drake has finally officially musically addressed why he makes techno music, and I am loving how he did it. Lots of “ly”’s in that first sentence, but it was definitely necessary. Let’s talk about it…
The statement was made on “Middle of the Ocean”, a song on his new collab album called, ‘Her Loss’, with 21 Savage.
I could literally envision Drake sipping on some champagne, sitting on a floatie in the middle of the ocean, wearing some shades with a tropical Hawaiian style shirt and some light beige khaki shorts in this song, as I was listening to it. Yeah… I bet you can now too. Haa!
Oh, what was the statement you ask? Well, he made a LOT of statements… Drake was literally in the “Middle of the Ocean” talkin’ sh*t. You will have to listen to the whole song to know exactly all what sh*t he was talkin’, BUT, here is what he had to say with respect to why he makes techno music:
“…N*ggas so ignorant in our hood they be like why the f*#% you making techno,
I’m worldwide and this is just another cargo jetflow I had to let go.
Life insurance policies you n*ggas bout to need the gecko.
I got some meaner threads though…”
Obviously you were talking about broke materialistic people, Drake. Broke materialstic people, how do yall feel about that? Still fans? Lol. Basically Drake is confirming in this song what he already kind of hinted at previously on his Instagram post after releasing the ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ album this summer, which was that making diverse music keeps you well-rounded as an artist, not to mention gives you a security blanket financially. He was also saying that he has insurance plus cool clothes, whereas most of the haters only got cool clothes…but his are better. Dang Drizzy, that was chizzly. I try…
The album gets a solid yes. Must listen. The production is incredible, OMG… I always anticipate Drake’s music for the production alone, and you already knew that with 21 Savage on a collab album that they were both gonna talk their sh*t.
Favorite track is “Broke Boys”. “Jumbotron Sh*t Poppin” and “P*ssy & Millions” ft Travis Scott (a radio push) are others. “Spin Bout U” is for the ladies, look out for some twerk and fashion reels on social media. Not from me, maybe from some Instagram models. Shout out to Instagram models.
I did not care for the shot at Megan Thee Stallion on “Circo Loco” (no pun or disrespect intended, that’s what the term is called..), I felt like that line did not add to the song, it was disrespectful, and could have been left out. It was actually one of my least favorite tracks and would have been regardless of what he or 21 said on it. Unfortunately it’s a radio push though, since it was one of the few upbeat songs on the album, aaand the fact that it samples Daft Punk’s hit electronic song (year 2000), “One More Time”. That’s messed up.
Here is Megan Thee Stallion’s initial reaction to the song:
Megan is very unhappy and has tweeted a couple of more since then about the topic.
Surprisingly, although this article is primarily about “Middle of the Ocean”, it was not one of my favorites, because I felt like it was more of a diss track on several levels. I heard that Serena and hubby line too Drake, *sigh*… But lyrically, it was one of the best for sure.
Here it is:
“BackOutsideBoyz” was strategically positioned for radio and will be on mainstream radio (wait for it), had a catchy beat and all that good stuff, so we added it to HomeBase Radio Vibe Vol 1. “Rich Flex” is a radio position too at the #1 spot on the album, but I was feeling “Broke Boys” more, so that was also added. That is rare by the way, for us to add two songs from the same album on the same playlist, but we had to show some love to a track with 21 Savage on it too, ya feel me?
But it gets even better. We have an all Drake playlist on Apple Music and Spotify, called “All Drake” (it is what it is), so all of these tracks have also been placed on there for all the Drizzy fans. We got you!!
21 Savage, bro, who did you just cut off that cheated on you that’s in denial and tried to blow you up though? Wow… Don’t leave us with that drip of juice and not give us the full cup. I wanna get my dranky drank on. You wrong fo dat bruh. Glad you’re okay though.
Blogs is where I talk my sh*t… Lol.
