Beyonce’s NFL Halftime Show Was a Hit Despite Sparking Outrage

Beyoncé performed in front of a whopping 27 million viewers during her NFL halftime performance in her hometown of Houston, TX, on Christmas Day, Dec 25th. Even though the Baltimore Ravens clobbered the Houston Texans 31-2, the city of Houston still scored a win with an exceptional performance by their hometown superstar, with what has also been referred to as the “Beyonce Bowl”.

She performed her top country hits, “16 Carriages”, “Blackbiird”, “Jolene”, “Levi’s Jeans”, and “Texas Hold ‘Em”, among others. She shared the stage with guest featured artists on her songs, and her daughter, Blue Ivy, even joined her in the dance for “Texas Hold ‘Em”.

The end of her performance sparked a lot of controversy by NFL fans and had many in an uproar, with her use of a banned hand gesture that is not allowed by players, and where they would get penalized 15 yards during a game for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The hand gesture was that of two fingers pointing together in a 90 degree angle, forming the appearance of a g_n. But what sparked even more outrage was the banner flag that was released and draping from the bottom of her raised platform at the very end, that read the word “B-A-N-G”.

Beyoncé had released her cross-genre country album, ‘Cowboy Carter’, in March of this year, and it even won her an award for Top Country Female Artist at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, despite the fact that the album was what many fans referred to as “snubbed” by the Country Music Awards (CMAs), and she did not receive any nominations there.

It is definitely worth to note that her performance at the 27 million viewer NFL halftime show had a staggering amount of more viewership than that of the Country Music Awards, which had a mere 6.08 million.

Congratulations to Beyoncé on her accomplishments this year, despite the haters.
