East Atlanta born rapper, J.I.D, shed some insight on how he came up with his artist name and the titke for his latest album, ‘God Does Like Ugly’, which released Friday, August 8th.
He says that both were inspired by his grandmothers:
“Initially, my name, J.I.D came from my grandmother on my dad’s side, because when I was a baby I was super jittery, and I just moved around a lot. So, being from the South, it sound like J-I-D.
And then, my grandmother on my mother’s side, named the album ‘God Does Like Ugly’.
She was making a joke one day. Some crazy thing happened in the world, I don’t know..and she was like, “I guess God does like ugly, I guess…” Da da da.. And she was like, you should name your album that. So, it kind of snapped..
…It came from the ancestors.”

The album is currently #1 on iTunes Hip Hop chart and #4 on Apple Music’s Hip Hop chart.
