Houston rap legend Mike Jones has been a hot topic of discussion this past week, as he was trolled on social media by fans and media outlets after a video from over the summer was posted of him performing in front of a crowd of about 50 people.
Although the video had been circulating for months and was no longer at the top of most fans radars, something he may have seen recently made him decide to finally speak on it. He took to his Instagram account Friday, Jan 3, 2025 to set the record straight. He posted 2 screenshots, one of him being offered $100,000 to perform at a fan’s sons bar mitzvah, and another offer of $25,000 with $10,000 for travel fees, to perform at Aloha Stadium (located in Halawa, Hawaii).
He included captions detailing the power of his viral 281-330-8004 phone number from his 2005 hit single, “Back Then”, and what it was created for. He says it was created to deter janky promoters promoting fake shows, and to have a way for his fans to connect directly with him.

For a lot of reasons, 1) was to keep yall from dealing with janky promoter who promote fake shows & 2) I wanted to be accessible n hands on with my fans n supporters and here in 2025 , they hitting the 281-330-8004 # for a bar mitzvah so yea we doin that! So if yall only see 5 or 50 people there lol that’s what that’s for lmao #PaidVacations even when nobody there lol”
